We are at the forefront of developing new green technologies.
We have invested even in this lean period and have built our capacities for the long period of sustained growth, says Kennady V Kaipally, Country Manager, Mobile & Wind Solutions, Bonfiglioli Transmissions. Excerpts from the interview...

What are the trends towards achieving cost efficiency through advanced green technology?
Bonfiglioli?s commitment to the green economy is a strategic choice, whose roots run deep into the company?s past, and has conditioned Bonfiglioli?s entire organisational model, not only in the choice of markets, but also in the development of new products. So, it is natural for us to look favourably on these trends. We are at the forefront of developing these new green technologies and products that drive cost efficiencies.

Brief us on the latest technology developed by Bonfiglioli that help achieve fuel and energy efficiency.
We have come up with a number of solutions that not only guarantee greater energy efficiency and reduced fuel consumption, but also help cut operating costs by extending service intervals and making servicing simpler. Innovations like a central tyre inflation/deflation system in our 606 Y3 wheel drives improve the overall efficiency of the engine to wheel drivetrain.

How do you view the trend towards integration of electric power with mechanical transmission?
It is imperative that sooner or later, increasing number of construction equipment will be electrically driven. As a leader in drive solutions, we are leading the way in integrating our new series of low voltage induction motors (BT Series) with our reliable and proven transmissions to provide pioneering solution for construction equipment OEMs.

Brief us on the mechatronics developed by Bonfiglioli.
Bonfiglioli has developed a range of mechatronic solutions for new generation of hybrid vehicles capable of integrating electric power with mechanical transmissions. Its 600WE planetary drives incorporate an integrated, maintenance-free electric motor instead of a conventional hydraulic motor and offer significant benefits in terms of compact dimensions, low noise and high efficiency. The 600WE Series drives are designed for use with all kinds of aerial platforms, including articulated and telescopic boom types, vertical and scissor lifts with service heights from 5 to 27 m, for indoor use in tight spaces or outdoor use even on rough ground. This advanced powertrain solution uses a two or three-stage gearbox offering reduction ratios of up to 1:95 to satisfy the widest possible range of needs. The gearbox is coupled to a low voltage induction motor (BT Series) specially developed for traction power and control applications.

How do you assess bC India?
bC India is a much needed addition to the exhibition calendar for construction equipment industry and with the growing construction equipment industry, we hope it reaches the size and stature of other bC exhibitions. Working with OEMs is a continuous ongoing process, so we are not planning launches at specific exhibitions, but we will see a large number of OEMs launching new products with our drive solutions.

What is the growth prospect of the CE sector and its ancillary segments?
The current scenario in the CE sector is not encouraging. However, we do remain positive on the long term expansion of the market and have positioned overseas accordingly. This has led us to invest even in this lean period for CE sector and build our capacities for the long period of sustained growth. We have grown in recent years and we will continue to do so as the market recovers.
